Commissioned by the RSPB to enhance the new pathway to the viewpoint over Dovestone at Binn Green. The arch is carved from Turkey Oak from Cheethams Park in Stalybridge. Part of Cheethams Park was The RSPB’s first ever nature reserve so it’s fitting that some of the tree would live on at their newest and largest reserve.
Around 200 years old the tree was wind blown on 15th April 2012, some of the trunk was planked for community use including the RHS Silver Medal Winning Life In The Year of Dream Scheme show garden at Tatton Park by Peter Castle and Jacqui Symons.
Timber from this tree was also used to create an entrance feature for Hyde Park Community Orchard and will be utilised for the creation of a few more pieces for Dove Stone.
